Face Fit Testing

We provide a testing service, carrying out face fit tests for employees, companies and organisations throughout the UK, either at your premises or one of our training locations.

HSE Guidance (Coronavirus (COVID-19): update)

If you wear a mask at work that relies on making a seal with your face then you need a face fit test. The guidance above gives advice on RPE fit testing for the employer and those conducting fit tests. It also provides information on RPE fit testing methods, what can be achieved from a fit test and the core information to be included in a fit test report.

Who should be tested?

All wearers of tight-fitting face pieces e.g. respirators or compressed air breathing apparatus require a fit test in the workplace.
Why wear high performance respiratory protective equipment then compromise the protection given if the mask does not fit the wearer correctly?

What you need to do?

The best time to do face fit testing is at the initial selection stage, when individual users can be given a choice of adequate models of RPE. You should ensure that the make, model, type and size of facepiece that they wore when they had their successful fit test is made available for their use. If an employee wears more than one type of tight-fitting facepiece, then each type of facepiece should be fit tested.
